Family: Bignoniaceae Scientific name: Amphilophium crucigerum Description: Plant Form Climbing vine. Stem Hairy and ribbed when young, becoming thick and woody without ribs with age. Leaves In opposite pairs, consisting of 2-3 soft, bright green leaflets 2.5-8 cm long, with the 3rd leaflet often replaced by a coiled tendril. Flowers Tubular, white or creamy yellow outside and yellow inside, with 5 lobes notched at the top and bending backwards. Up to 5 cm long and in clusters of 2-10 (sometimes up to 30). Fruit and Seeds Large, thick, woody capsule 8-30 cm long. Covered in prickles. Containing seeds which have a large transparent papery wing. Habitat Disturbed areas, riparian areas, urban bushland, forests. Distinguishing Features Flowers are distinctive but when not in flower it may look like Orange trumpet creeper (Pyrostegia venusta) or Argentine trumpet vine (Clytostoma callistegioides) but has wider leaves.
