Family: Poaceae Scientific name: Nassella tenuissima Description: Plant Form Perennial tussock grass. Size Up to 70 cm tall. Stem Long, narrow, form thick tussocks. With a small sheath covering the base of the leaf join. Leaves Up to 60 cm long, tightly rolled, overlapping at edges, smooth rolled between fingers but rough when sliding fingers downwards. Flowers Clustered in group 15-25 cm long at the end of a spike. Drooping. Fruit and Seeds Purplish-brown or green. Clustered in groups at the end of the spike. With leaf-like sheath which makes them hard to pull of plant. With 4.5-9 cm long awns. Habitat Old gardens, pastures, grasslands, woodlands. Distinguishing Features Similar to Serrated tussock (Nassella trichotoma) but has longer leaves and a narrower seed, with much longer awns.
